Fidya / Kaffara – Missed A Fast?
Missed your fast in Ramadan and don’t anticipate being able to make it up anytime soon?
Fidya is a religious donation made when fasts are missed/broken for a valid reason. Common reasons include a serious health condition, terminal illness, extreme old age, pregnancy, childbearing, and nursing etc. Fidya is calculated as $10 for each missed day (or $300 for someone who misses all 30 fasts of Ramadan).
Kaffara is due when fasts are missed/broken without a valid reason. For each missed day, one must fast 60 consecutive days or provide an average meal for 60 people in need.

Zakat ul Fitr
Zakat Ul Fitr (Fitra) is an obligatory charity given during Ramadan that must be paid prior to praying the Eid Ul Fitr Prayers. It is usually paid by the head of the household on behalf of their family, but can also be paid by anyone who can afford it. Zakat Ul Fitr is $15/Person and calculated as the cost of giving 1 Saa’ (or 4 x Double Handfuls of a common food staple item such as wheat, rice, barley, raisins, etc).
DawaNet Charitable Services arranges to disburse Zakat Ul Fitr locally via our HalalServe Food Assistance Program.
Important: Zakat Ul Fitr must be paid before Eid Prayers. Please consider fulfilling this obligation a few days before Eid to allow our team enough time to disburse it
